Reading

We recommend reading the following, to become familiar with the basics of Temple Studies as it has been developed by Dr. Barker, as laid out in her book Temple Theology: An Introduction (London: SPCK, 2004).  We recommend these three readily-available articles introducing Latter-day Saints to Dr. Barker’s work and its relevance in LDS theology:

Important books relevant to the Temple, Temple Studies, and the “Mormonism and the Temple: Examining an Ancient Religious Tradition” conference.

  • The House of the Lord, James E. Talmage (Salt Lake City: Deseret News, 1912). Now published by Deseret Book Company.
  • The Temple: Meeting Place of Heaven and Earth, John M. Lundquist (London and New York: Thames & Hudson, 2012).
  • Solomon’s Temple: Myth and History, William J. Hamblin and David Rolph Seely (London and New York: Thames & Hudson, 2007)

A list of articles published over the years in BYU Studies which are relevant to the temple is also available.
